All products that use Bluetooth® must complete the Bluetooth Qualification Process. Completing the Qualification process allows you to use the Bluetooth Technology, Trademark and Bluetooth Logo. Bluetooth® Testing Services

Whether you are developing a Bluetooth® product from scratch or you are integrating pre-qualified designs—it may result in different testing requirements, depending on the product types as defined by the Bluetooth SIG.

Bluetooth® News

  • Bluetooth SIG: LE Audio improves Bluetooth Audio Quality

    Bluetooth LE Audio is the audio connection of the future.

    While Bluetooth Classic Audio uses the A2DP profile with SBC codec, LE Audio uses the new LC3 codec standard, which is far superior to the SBC codec.

    Due to better compression, the sound is in higher quality and less power consuming.

    According to the TCRL 2021-1, the tests for the new LE Audio profiles becomes now active (13-Oct-2021) for Bluetooth Qualification.

  • Bluetooth SIG: Launch Studio Enhancements

    Launch Studio is the Bluetooth SIG's online system for managing the member qualification process.

    Recently, Launch Studio has been updated with some useful enhancements:

    • Test Declaration check

    The completed test plan (test declaration) is automatically checked for inconsistencies by the system when the file is uploaded.

    The member is now informed if e.g. test results, data or references are missing.

    • Product Import

    An Excel template is now available for multiple product lists. The data can be filled in offline and allows a mass upload of products to be listed.

  • Bluetooth SIG: new Bluetooth version v5.3 has been released

    From now on, the new Bluetooth Core version v5.3 has been published and is available for Qualification.

    The new version includes the following feature enhancements:

    • Periodic Advertising Enhancement
    • Encryption Key Size Control Enhancement
    • Connection Subrating
    • Channel Classification Enhancement
    • Removal of the Alternate MAC and PHY (AMP) Extension

  • TCRL – extended date for TCRL 2019-1 ended on October 15, 2020

    The Active Date for Test Case Reference List (TCRL 2019-2) has been extended to October 15, 2020 due to the COVID-19 situation. This date is over now and Members are not allowed to continue using TCRL 2019-1 from October 15, 2020. This will mean that new introduced test cases are now mandatory for qualification and cannot be waived by referencing the old TCRL version (TCRL 2019-1).

  • IB-Lenhardt joins Bluetooth® Regulatory Expert Group

    IB-Lenhardt AG has officially become a member of the Regulatory Expert Group of the Bluetooth® SIG. 

    The Regulatory Expert Group (REG) is focusing on coordination of regulatory aspects and regulatory discussions affecting the Bluetooth technology.

    The global regulatory environment will be monitored by the members and topics that impact Bluetooth Technology will be identified. As a result of this, internal advisory documents for the members will be created containing descriptions how to test products in order to meet the regulatory requirements in the specific regions. In addition it will be a forum for discussions of a global regulatory environment.

    LE Isochronous Channels

    This feature, which was primarily designed to support LE Audio, the next generation of Bluetooth audio, allows the communication of time-bound data to one or more devices for time-synchronized processing. It can be used over connections or be broadcast to an unlimited number of devices in a connectionless fashion. 

    New use cases and topologies are made possible by LE Isochronous Channels. An audio source can transmit audio for synchronized playback by small, private groups of devices (personal audio sharing) or to large collections of devices of unlimited sizes in public spaces, such as cinemas. 

    LE Audio, built on top of the new LE Isochronous Channels, will offer a new standard for hearing aids and support assisted hearing systems in diverse locations, such as theaters, conferences, lecture halls, and airports.

  • Bluetooth Core Specification Version 5.2 released

    LE Power Control

    The new LE Power Control makes it possible for devices to dynamically optimize the transmission power used in communication between connected devices. Bluetooth LE receivers may now monitor signal strength and request transmission power-level changes in connected devices, typically to maintain an optimal signal strength from both a signal quality and low- power-use perspective. 

    Benefits of the LE Power Control feature include: 1. The reduction of overall power consumption by transmitters through dynamic power management conducted between connected devices. 2. Improvements in reliability through the active maintenance of receiver signal strength so that it stays within the optimal range supported by the receiver. 3. Improvements relating to coexistence with other wireless devices that are in the environment and are using the 2.4 GHz frequency range. This benefit applies to all such devices, not just those that are using Bluetooth.

    Enhanced Attribute Protocol (eATT)
    An improved version of the Attribute protocol (ATT), called the Enhanced Attribute protocol (EATT), has been introduced along with some associated improvements to the Generic Attribute Profile (GATT)

    EATT supports concurrent transactions, allows the interleaving of L2CAP packets relating to ATT packets from different applications, and allows the ATT Maximum Transmission Unit (MTU) to be changed during a connection. Collectively, these changes can provide an improved user experience on devices where there are multiple applications using the Bluetooth Low Energy (LE) stack at the same time, through reducing instances where one application’s use of the stack temporarily blocks that of another. This can reduce the end- to- end latency of one or more of the applications and improve the user’s experience of responsiveness.

    In support of EATT, a new L2CAP mode has been defined. The new mode is called the L2CAP Enhanced Credit Based Flow Control Mode. This mode provides flow control and so allows applications to regard the protocol as reliable. EATT has security advantages over unenhanced ATT as it may only be used over an encrypted connection.

  • New Test Case Reference List - TCRL (2019-2) released

    What is new?

    Beside of several new test cases which become mandatory to be performed after the active date, the Bluetooth SIG included now an overview about the „Expedited Errata TS&ICS Impact“.
    This sheet informatively summarizes the qualification requirement changes and additions connected to the expedited specification erratum as defined when first qualifiable. 
    All affected tests are listed here and if this testing is applicable to your product is depending on the supported features (ICS).

  • What is a Bluetooth Qualification Consultant (BQC)?

    Bluetooth® Qualification Consultants (BQC) are independent consultants who have met certain requirements and are allowed to call themselves “Bluetooth Qualification Consultants”.
    The BQC assists members with submission of their products for qualification to meet all requirements.

    Each Bluetooth Qualification Consultant must pass an exam designed to assess their understanding of the Bluetooth Qualification Process to satisfy all program requirements.
